Roofs in Randburg
Randburg officially came into being in 1959 and was a municipality in its own right until it became part of the City of Johannesburg around 2000. Today it is mostly residential suburbs around a busy commercial centre.
The City of Johannesburg notes that townhouse developments are increasing in the northern parts of the region and that large plots are being subdivided. Robindale is known for dense townhouse complexes and Windsor for blocks of flats. That means many Randburg roofs are shared roofs, looked after by a body corporate or a managing agent.
Where a plot has been subdivided or a house extended, the join between the new roof and the old one is where we find leaks most often. The flashings, the fall of the roof and the way water is led off it all have to work together.
Worth checking on roofs like these
- Water marks on the ceiling near where an extension joins the original house
- Flashings that have lifted or rusted along walls and parapets
- Cracked or slipped tiles on shared complex roofs
- Blocked gutters and valleys
- Old waterproofing patches that have cracked
