Roofs in Florida
Florida was laid out in 1889 on the old farm Vogelstruisfontein, proclaimed in 1890, and was part of Roodepoort by 1904.
The City of Johannesburg describes Roodepoort and its surrounding suburbs as mainly residential, with townhouse and cluster developments along roads such as Christiaan de Wet Road. That means two quite different kinds of roof in this part of the city: older houses, where the timbers and fixings need checking, and newer complexes, where flashings and shared repairs matter more.
Whatever its age, a roof repair should start with what is underneath: timbers, battens and fixings first, then the tiles or sheets, with waterproofing only as a finishing layer.
Worth checking on roofs like these
- A sagging roof line or ridge
- Rusted metal sheets, nails and screws
- Tiles that keep slipping
- Water stains on ceilings or timbers
- Flashings and joins on townhouse and cluster roofs
