Roofs in Blackheath
Blackheath was laid out in 1903 with 277 stands over 84.5 hectares, and named after Blackheath in London. It lies just north of Northcliff, with Beyers Naudé Drive running through it and Cresta Shopping Centre close by.
More than a century on, the suburb has grown well beyond those first stands, with several extensions. A house on one of the older stands may have been re-roofed or extended more than once, and the joins between old and new work are where leaks usually start.
Complexes need a different eye. On a shared roof, one cracked tile or tired flashing can show up as a leak in someone else’s unit, so we trace the water back to where it gets in and quote clearly for the body corporate.
Worth checking on roofs like these
- Leaks where extensions and additions meet the original roof
- Cracked or slipped tiles
- Rust on older metal sheets and fixings
- Flashings along walls and parapets
- Ceiling stains in top-floor units
